I had the same error message, when opening a new net. I upgraded Java to the latest version(7u40). The x64 version still does not work, but when i am using the x86 version the problem is solved.

CPN Tools: 4.0 OS: Win 7 x64

Michael Westergaard (Code and Support Guy, CPN Tools) responded

This is caused by the tool being unable to find java. It seems to be a problem with Windows 64 bit and some other cases.

The tool should handle this nicer.

I had the same problem (CPNTools 4.0, Win7 64bit). Installation of 32bit Java solved the problem.

Same here with CPNTools 4.0 and Win 8.1 x64. Maybe you could consider publishing a 64bit version which supports 64bit Java in the future?

Hi

I have a similar problem when i want to install CPNTools 4.0(win7 64bit). This error is:” The installer could not fined a valid java™ on this machin.” How do i resolve this problem?

Thanks.

I had the same problem. Just add java.exe path to environment variable PATH.

Hi

I have a similar problem, when i would like open an existing net or create a new net.

“WARNING: Coluld not open/create prefs root nood Software\JavaSoft\Prefs at root 0x80000002. Windows RegCreatekeyEx(…) returned error code 5.

#Beta execution aborted: Access violation. #Error during dump: Unexpected Signal. Aborting.”

The java version of 32 bit didn’t solve the problem.

I have a windows 7 64 bit and java version 7 update 60.

This is ridiculous because yesterday the CPN tools worked normally, but today the program is not working. Today Microsoft updated the windows….(KB2971850 and some others….)

What can I do? (ok, delete the version 64 bit, but I don’t like to do that…)

As mentioned, the problem is caused by lacking Java. Make sure to download and install a recent JRE/JDK from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html (anything from 7 and up should work).

If you get the error, make sure to set your environment variables (varies with the version of Windows, so look that up; on Windows, select advanced system settings in Control panel and then Environment variables) so that JAVA_HOME points to the installation location (e.g., c:\Program Files\Java\jre8) and your PATH includes the bin directory under JAVA_HOME (in the example, it would have to include c:\Program Files\Java\jre8\bin).

Sometimes the installer sets this up correctly, sometimes not. It seems to be a problem especially with the 64 bit installer, but everything works with all combinations of architectures as long as the variables are set correctly.

Michael Westergaard (Code and Support Guy, CPN Tools) commented

I’ve added a section to the knowledge base detailing the problem (Can’t simulate model/Model stays orange). I’ll change the description to instead say that this should be detected and the user should be directed to a solution (it is not a problem in CPN Tools, it is a system problem, but CPN Tools should detect this instead of crashing).

just downloaded and had the same issue. Has anyone had another solution without deleting version 64 bit?
